The WBA has officially authorized American Davis to defend his lightweight belt against Roach, holder of the WBA super featherweight title. This fight is scheduled for December 14. Before that, the WBA issued a resolution that Roach was obliged to defend against interim champion Batyrgaziev, but the teams failed to reach an agreement within the deadline and a swap had to take place.
“We are looking forward to the fight between Lamont Roach and Gervonta Davis, and after their fight, according to the resolution of the WBA, Roach is obliged to box Albert for the WBA champion belt within 120 days. Batyrgaziev has 11 victories in the professional ring. The last time the Russian entered the ring was in mid-October in Ufa at the IBA Night of Champions tournament, when he defeated the Filipino Albert Pagara ahead of schedule and defended the IBA belt in weight category up to 60 kg.
