Palkin on winter preparation: It didn’t work out with the trip to the USA. Let’s get ready in Turkey

The training camp will start on January 10, 6 sparrings are planned

CEO of Shakhtar Sergey Palkin spoke about preparing the team during the winter break and explained why no US tour.

“The training camp will start on January 10 and end on February 9. Between these dates, maybe there will be a break of about three days. 6 sparrings are planned. Our task today is, firstly, to return the guys who were injured to the proper level.”

“The same Traore did not show himself at 100 percent: I think that what he showed in the first part of the season is 30-40 percent of his capabilities. He had a big injury, he did not play for a long time. And I understand him somewhere, because this is the only foreign player who remained after the start of the war, he experienced a certain pressure. We even discussed the option that he would train abroad and come to us for games. Then he realized that it was physically impossible. It all comes together and results. So I hope it all goes away.”

“Now everyone understands what the situation is, they see that the logistics are working – our moves from Ukraine to other countries for tournaments. That is, we have already trodden the path, and now we can concentrate on the result and prepare for the first game against Rennes.”

“We were in talks with MLS, there were certain agreements. But we began to “sail” by dates – a mismatch began. We understood that having gone to the USA, we would play a maximum of 2 games there. And purely economically, it turned out that we would be at a loss. We wanted to go there to give the money we earned to the army, to refugees, for the people of Ukraine. And what can we give if we still have to? They simply calculated and realized that economically we do not fall into the budget. If there were more games, we would go. We needed at least 4 matches, and then we would definitely go. And so, it didn’t work out. We will prepare in Turkey.”

Earlier it was reported that Shakhtar plans to play a series of matches in the US in January, among the rivals were called DC United, Inter Miami and Dallas. The miners are planning a US tour to raise funds for families affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Following the results of the group stage of the Champions League, Shakhtar finished third in the quartet and advanced to the playoffs of the Europa League. In February, the Pitmen will play with Rennes in the 1/16 finals of the LE.

Jovičević’s team is in second place in the UPL standings, 5 points behind Dnipro-1. In the first match of the second round, Shakhtar will play against Metalist 1925.
