The main midfielder of the Italian national team will not play against Ukraine

Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali has been injured ahead of a crucial qualifying match for Euro 2024.

The Italian team lost before the qualifying match for the European Championship against the Ukrainian team. The Squadra Azzurra coaching staff will not be able to count on Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali in the home match.

The latter is a key player for the reigning European champions. The midfielder played almost the entire previous qualifying match against North Macedonia (1:1), where he suffered a muscle injury.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the day before Tonali underwent a medical examination at a clinic in Milan, and an accurate verdict on the severity of the injury is now expected.

In the match against Ukraine, Tonali is expected to be replaced in the starting line-up by midfielder Davide Frattesi, with Nicolo Barella and Manuel Locatelli in the backfield.

We remind you that the Euro 2024 qualifying match between the national teams of Italy and Ukraine will take place on September 12 in Milan at the San Siro stadium. The game starts at 21:45 Kyiv time.
