After a mistake by the midfielder, the Italians scored the first goal of the match
Midfielder Ukrainian national team Georgy Sudakov commented on the result of the match against Italy (1:2) in the sixth round of the Euro 2024 qualifying cycle. Separately, the midfielder spoke about his mistake in the first half, which led to a goal.
“A very unfortunate mistake. I understand that such mistakes cannot be made at this level. This will be a lesson for me. Before every game I choose my shoes. Shoed boots with plastic [шипами], it was necessary with metal ones. Then I changed my shoes and it became easier. But this is my mistake, I want to apologize to the team and fans. At this level you can’t make mistakes.”
“We understood that there would be such pressure because Italy had to win this match. Not that they should – they just needed a victory. They understood that at home, in front of their fans at San Siro, they would run aggressively. We can say that we were ready for this. It happened that way.”
“We have powerful strikers – Artem Dovbik, Roman Yaremchuk. They understood that there was no point in playing in front of the penalty area when there was very high pressure, and they remained one on one, making vertical passes so that they would cling on. Yes, I want to play more with the ball, through short and medium passes, but we must understand what we are doing on the football field when the team covers us high, does it make sense. A clear example, probably, even of my mistake, when we played near our own penalty area, one mistake – a goal,” said Sudakov.
After five matches played, the Ukrainian national team takes third place in Group C of the Euro 2024 qualification. The blue-yellows have 7 points. In the next match, Rebrov’s team will play against North Macedonia on October 14.
