In early July, the Ukrainians will play three qualifying matches
Toronto Raptors guard Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk commented on his arrival at the camp of the Ukrainian national team on the eve of the qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup.
Yesterday, the Ukrainian legionnaire in the NBA had his first training session with the country’s main team at the training camp in Riga.
“The emotions from being in the national team are always positive, especially in times like these. I always want to play in the national team, I always come when there is an opportunity. And this year we have very important games for reaching the World Cup, and I came to help the team achieve their goals and get back to the World Cup,” said Svyat.
“There are always chances – before that we proved that we can beat the Spaniards. But now the most important game is against Georgia. It will be hard, because they bring good players from the NBA, from the Euroleague. But we will try our best to win.”
“Coming to the national team? Yes, at first I was determined to come to EuroBasket, to prepare, but now there is a good opportunity to go to the World Championship, so why not.
In the period July 1-7, the team of Ainars Bagatskis will play against Georgia, North Macedonia and Spain. Nominally Ukrainians will play home matches in Riga.
In June, it became known that Mikhailyuk would continue his career in Toronto, extending his contract with the organization for the next season.
