Greek police made more than 450 arrests near the Melina Mercouri stadium in Athens during the League Cup match between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos volleyball teams, Protothema reports.
According to the source, around 150 supporters attacked the police as they left the stadium. They threw Molotov cocktails, flares and other objects at the police. Following the collision, a police officer was hospitalized in critical condition.
The police fired tear gas, a cloud of which entered the stadium, leading to the cancellation of the match. After that, the police decided to release the women and children from the stadium, but left hundreds of men inside. This was done in order to identify people who may be involved in the incidents that occurred. As a result, 464 supporters were arrested.
The derby was interrupted with a score of 1-0 (25:19, 10:18) in favor of Olympiacos.
