Former Spartak striker Valery Kechinov believes that the “red-whites” should have appointed a Russian specialist as sports director.
Friday “Spartacus” announced the appointment of Tomas Amaral. The Portuguese, who has worked for Benfica in recent years, will start his job on January 1. In this position, he will replace the Englishman Paul Ashworth, who will take the post of technical director of the club.
— If I understand correctly, Amaral was taken to Spartak to be able to bring good foreign players to the team. But what normal footballer would go to Russia now, knowing that we don’t participate in European Cups? Why then was it even necessary to invite another stranger? It seems to me that it is more appropriate to pay attention to our specialists, whether it is the sports director, the coach or the players,” Kechinov said according to RT.
Spartak finished the first part of the RPL season in fifth place in the standings, gaining 30 points.
