The fate of the match was decided by Theo Hernandez’s goal
Milan beat on home field Napoli in the 24th round match of the Italian Serie A – 1:0.
In the first half, the hosts looked much stronger and deservedly took the lead – left back Theo Hernandez played a quick one-two with Rafael Leau and dealt with the goalkeeper.
During the break, Walter Mazzarri restructured the game to a more attacking one, and Napoli began to look more cheerful in front. Milan gave the guests the initiative, but at the same time sharply counterattacked.
The visitors missed their best chance to level the score in the 89th minute – the red and blacks were saved in turn by the post and Mike Maignan.
The victory allowed Stefano Pioli’s team to get within one point of second-placed Juventus – although the Old Lady has a game in hand. The Azzurri remained ninth and are already seven points behind the top four.
European competition will resume for both teams next week. Napoli will host Barcelona in the Champions League, while Milan will play at home against Rennes in the Europa League.
