Thanks to this result, Real secured the championship title four rounds before the finish.
Girona won a strong-willed victory over Barcelona in a bright, high-scoring match of the 34th round of the Spanish Examples – 4:2.
The derby rivals exchanged goals within the opening four minutes. First, Andreas Christensen, who joined the attack, successfully caught the ball on his foot after a pass from Lamin Yamal and sent it into the far corner. But the championship’s top scorer Artem Dovbik immediately had his say: the Ukrainian headed in a point-blank cross from Ivan Martin.
Let’s note that the goal was Artem’s 20th in this championship – he secured his position as the leader in the list of Examples scorers. The closest pursuer is Jude Bellingham with 18 goals scored. Dovbik, like Viktor Tsygankov, was in the starting lineup and, unlike his compatriot, played to the end.
Subsequently, the half passed with a slight advantage for the Blue Garnets, for whom any result other than a victory meant the end of the championship race. Just before the break, the guests were entitled to a penalty (Yamal earned it). Robert Lewandowski beat Paulo Gassaniga from the spot.
Girona started the second half actively. Then Barcelona seemed to have seized the initiative, but out of the blue Sergi Roberto gave the ball to Dovbik, and the Ukrainian organized the second goal – with his assist (already the sixth in Example) fresh Porto scored. Less than two minutes had passed when the same Porto found Miguel Gutierrez in the penalty area, and he, thanks to a rebound from Jules Kounde, put his team ahead for the first time.
Barcelona rushed to recoup and scored a masterpiece goal. Savio sent the corner into the penalty area and Porto hit the far corner with an incredible volley.
Girona beat Barcelona for the second time this season with a score of 4:2. This result had two important consequences. Firstly, Girona, having come in second place, guaranteed itself participation in the Champions League for the next season. Secondly, Barcelona’s defeat allowed Real to win the league title ahead of schedule.
