Mykhailenko’s team will play its first match at the European Youth Championship on July 15
Head coach Ukraine U-19 national team Dmitry Mykhailenko gave his commentary regarding the team’s preparation for the upcoming Youth Euro 2024.
“The team’s training camp will take place in Poland, near Gdynia. From there we will travel to Northern Ireland. Friendly matches? There will be one game with a team from the non-top division of the Polish championship on July 9.”
“Have all the players who were planned been called up to the national team? At the moment, no one has refused, none of the clubs are taking players. All the players should be there, I am in touch with them.”
“Group opponents? Northern Ireland are in the Euro because they are hosting the tournament. The other teams have come through very tough competition. Norway and Italy are very tough teams, very good level. I have already seen them. Northern Ireland are a lower level, but they will still prepare and they are very motivated. We need to know how we should win and prepare.”
The training camp of Mykhailenko’s team will begin on July 4. On July 15, the blue-yellows will play their first match at Euro 2024.
The Ukrainian U-19 team will play in Group A at the 2024 European Youth Championship, where its opponents will be Northern Ireland (the tournament hosts), Norway and Italy. In Group B, the youth teams of Denmark, Turkey, France and Spain will compete for a place in the semi-finals.
The schedule of matches of the Ukrainian U-19 team at the upcoming European Youth Championship 2024 has already been determined. The blue-yellows will play all three games in Larne. The first opponent of Dmitry Mykhailenko’s team will be the host team of the event – Northern Ireland.
Two teams from each quartet will advance to the semi-finals. In addition, since the continental championship will also serve as UEFA’s qualifier for the 2025 World Cup (U-20), the teams that finish third in their groups will play for the fifth European spot at the World Cup. The final match of the 2024 U-19 European Championship will be held on July 28.
