Ukraine U-19 played both opening matches of the tournament in a 0:0 draw
Head coach of the national team Ukraine U-19 Dmitry Mykhailenko commented on the draw against Norway U-19 (0:0) in the second round of the group stage of the youth Euro 2024.
“I can’t say that we are completely satisfied with the game. Today was difficult in the sense that the season has already started in Norway, and the players are in good playing shape, while we only worked in training mode for a certain period of time. Therefore, we understood that we would have to endure the first 30 minutes, and all the players – both defense and attack – worked to overcome the opponent’s pressure. We are not used to such a pace, so it was important to work hard in every part of the field, to clearly close off zones.”
“Our goal at this Euro is unchanged. We will definitely be dangerous for any team and always ready to play only to win. But first of all, we need to qualitatively resume and restore those players who are injured, and that is Sinchuk and Ogarkov. And then – prepare for the match with Italy.”
In the third round of the group stage, Ukraine U-19 will play the youth team of Italy, and the Norwegians will meet the tournament hosts, Northern Ireland. Both matches will take place on July 21.
