2024 Olympics 49er Sailing Medal Races Cancelled Due to Lack of Wind

The athletes waited in vain in the heat for about two hours

At the 2024 Olympics The final races in sailing in the 49er class did not take place. The competition in Marseille was prevented by a complete calm.

Today, Thursday, the medal races (men’s and women’s) in the two-seater boats known as 49ers were supposed to take place. The men started the regattas twice before the wind died down so much that racing was cancelled. The women’s race never even started.

The athletes waited on the water in the scorching sun for about two hours before being sent back to the pier. The final races are expected to take place on Friday, August 2.

Going into the final races in the 49er class, the men’s team from Spain and the women’s team from France were in the lead.

In January of this year, it became known that the World Sailing Council had decided to admit athletes from Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The Games will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
