The Ukrainian boxer was with the team before the return match of the European Cup with Olimpia
Mentor Polesia Imad Ashur spoke about short-term cooperation with the Ukrainian champion WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO heavyweight boxer and part-time player Polesia by Alexander Usik.
“We had not met before. I think that the impression of him as an athlete is not only on me, but on the whole world now. And as a person… The energy that he provided, he did it sincerely, to the team and to everyone around him, it is something that makes him a strong personality, which allows him to receive titles throughout his sports career.”
“He gave us a very good impulse and I can thank Alexander for that. Although in a short time, he influenced the second game against Olimpia. I am not talking about the result, but the game. And also, his participation in the training process showed that this athlete is strong not only in boxing. Usyk is doing very well in football.”
Usyk signed a contract with Poliesie in the summer of 2023, but since then he has not made his debut for the Zhytomyr club in an official match. Oleksandr also played for Poliesie in the Winter Cup friendly tournament.
Usyk took part in the open training session of the Zhytomyr team before the return match against Slovenian Olimpija in the second qualifying round of the Conference League. After the game (1:2), Oleksandr harshly criticized the refereeing of the match.
In the next round of the Ukrainian Premier League, Poliesie will play against Ingulets. The meeting is scheduled for August 17.
