UWW softens criteria for admission of Russian and Belarusian wrestlers to international competitions

Wrestlers from the aggressor country and its ally will not be able to take part in the competition if there is evidence of direct participation in the war against Ukraine or public statements in support of aggression

UWW (United World Wrestling) softened the criteria for admitting Russian and Belarusian wrestlers to international competitions.

Now only those athletes who have evidence of direct participation in the war against Ukraine or public statements in support of aggression will not be able to take part in the competition. UWW will also check all previous decisions on non-admission of representatives of the aggressor country and its ally. At the same time, the return of the Russian and Belarusian teams was not approved.

Wrestlers from Russia and Belarus will continue to compete in a neutral status. They will be deprived of all national symbols. In particular, flags will not be raised in their honor and the anthems of both countries will not be played.

Let us recall that Russian wrestlers did not take part in the 2024 Olympic Games – having received “neutral” status, they refused to participate in the competition.
