Karpaty won the derby thanks to a set-piece goal
Head coach Karpat Vladislav Lupashko commented on the victory over Rukh (1:0) in the derby Ukrainian Premier League.
“First of all, we dedicate this victory to those fans who are now at the front. I know that they actively follow us, sometimes they do not have the opportunity to watch our matches, but I know that they were very worried before this game. She was very important to them. We see that our players understand responsibility. We encouraged foreigners, told them how important this game was for the city, for the fans. Therefore, today everyone approached the fight with full understanding.”
“Before the game, we talked to the guys that our fans were expected to be few, because it was virtually impossible to get to the stadium today. But he noticed that if there were at least 10 people, they would be louder than the entire stadium. They confirmed it. I don’t know how, but there were a sufficient number of them.”
“If we touched on this topic, I would like to ask the Rukh football club to give a little more joy to our fans, our families, children and give them the opportunity to get to the Lviv Arena.” The emotions could have been different. Now the Rukhovites could rejoice, but the Carpathians won today. Our family knows how much effort we give in every training session, in every game, but they can’t even see it live. I would like the situation to change, but this is the right of the football club that is the host of the match.”
“The cup match with Rukh will be very different. Today we played the first half, but the cup match will be different. All the preparations and foresights for this game were confirmed on the football field. We knew that this was a very strong team that liked to move around actively and play one-on-one. We had a clear understanding of how to counter their game. We partially succeeded. But we had to realize our chances. We won, we are happy about it. Today we are happy, but tomorrow morning we have training.”
Karpaty won thanks to a goal from Jean Pedroso after a free kick. In the second half, Lupashko’s team focused on maintaining a positive result.
Karpaty scored 12 points and occupy eighth place in the UPL. In the next match, the Lupashko team will host Obolon on October 26. On October 29, Karpaty and Rukh will meet again in the Ukrainian Cup match.
