The 2024/25 Skeleton World Cup starts on November 16 in PyeongChang, Korea.
Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladislav Geraskevich spoke about preparations and goals for the new season.
“The preparation went well. We held very productive training camps in the off-season and changed our approach to training in some ways. For example, this summer they started using racing simulators. My idea is to replicate the feeling of concentration during a race; It also helps the eyes get used to the speeds.”
“Assignment for the season? For me personally, these are World Cup medals. For our team, this is testing and improving equipment, as well as improving the starting acceleration of Yaroslav Lavrenyuk and me. This season is already important for qualifying for the 2026 Olympic Games, so the goal is also to maintain a second quota for the World Cup. One of the big challenges this season is the World Championships in Lake Placid. I would like our team to approach the start in optimal shape.”
“The end of last season was really very positive, but we have a lot of work to do this season. In our sport, we do not have the privilege of living on past successes, because the technical component in skeleton develops very quickly. If you stay in one place for a long time, your opponents will quickly find themselves out of reach.”
“Lavrenyuk is maturing and creating very strong competition for experienced athletes at the World Cup. But we also have very high expectations, because together with Yaroslav we plan to win two licenses in men’s skeleton for the 2026 Olympic Games. A lot of effort still needs to be made to accomplish this mission.”
Last season, Geraskevich took tenth place at the 2024 World Championships in Winterberg, Germany, thereby showing the best result in the history of Ukraine. In September, Geraskevich became one of the scholarship recipients of the Olympic Solidarity Program of the International Olympic Committee to prepare for the XXV Winter Olympic Games 2026.
The 2024/25 World Cup in skeleton starts on November 16 in Pyeongchang, Korea. The 2025 World Championships will be held in Lake Placid, America, from March 3 to 16.
