Ben Sulayem denies FIA-FOM rumored division

Mohammed bin Sulayem responded to rumors that a serious rift has developed between the FIA and the FOM’s Formula 1 leadership over the course of the past season. According to the president of the FIA, such assumptions had nothing to do with reality then or now.

“I talk to Stefano Domenicali every two days,” Racingnews365 quoted Mohammed bin Sulayem as saying. If I don’t call him, he’ll call me. We are in constant contact with him and communicate before any meeting or decision making. I can say that I have a very good professional and personal relationship with FOM.

When I said something about three extra stages with a sprint in the spring, they immediately started talking about a split between the FIA and FOM. It all started on April 25 at the Formula 1 committee meeting, when someone suddenly said: “We have three more sprints to do.”

A reasonable suggestion, but I replied that I wanted to discuss this issue with my team first, as they would be faced with an additional workload. However, someone saw a split in my words.

We approved this proposal after reviewing and discussing everything with our team. People just don’t understand the pressures FIA employees and officials are under.

The Formula 1 committee agreed that from a sporting and commercial point of view, we must act in the interest of the future of the sport.

Of course questions remain, but it is safe to say that the relationship between the FIA and Formula 1 has never been better than it is now.”
