The Red Bull Racing drivers, who spoke of this coming weekend in Monaco, remembered that they once struggled at this track, but now they are determined to fight for the highest results.
Max Verstappen: “Weekends in Monaco are always hectic, but this is a unique Grand Prix. Qualification is very important there, because this classic track is very narrow, and your heart rate just goes off the scale, you experience incredible emotions!
You have to constantly drive on the limit and racing there in Formula 1 cars is complete madness. My racing history in Monaco isn’t particularly good, but last year I finally managed to win there, which I was very happy about, and when I crossed the finish line I felt a huge relief.
Sergio and I are doing really well as a team and of course it’s great, we are now in the lead in both standings of the championship. But the season is very long and as we have seen, a lot can change.”
Sergio Perez: “The weekend in Monaco has a special place between the stages of the season, especially during the qualifying final. On Saturday, a very intense rivalry unfolds on the track, as success in this Grand Prix is 99% dependent on the results of qualifying.
I like this beautiful circuit, where you can’t make mistakes, because it’s expensive. In 2011, the first time I competed in Monaco, I got into a serious mess, losing control of the car at the exit of the tunnel. It was probably my worst accident ever in Formula 1, but still I love this track and I love driving there.
The experience gained a year ago in Monaco never comes in handy, because every weekend on this track takes its own shape. I think the atmosphere that accompanies this Grand Prix and its history is what makes this weekend so special.
Our team has already gained momentum and now we just have to keep attacking. I want to see how the car performs on the track in Monaco as soon as possible and I intend to give it my all.”
