The president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has said Formula 1 race directors should be better trained and provided with sufficient experience.
“We have a lot of tasks ahead of us. The drivers asked me to take care of the race control problem. But I can’t effectively search for new race directors on Google or buy them on Amazon. Race directors must be trained carefully and for years…
Future race directors will be trained in Geneva. We are achieving three goals at once: we are training, the current race marshals are training more and we have more experts in the event of an emergency,” said Ben Sulayem, quoted by PlanetF1.
Nils Wittich and Eduardo Freitas replaced Michael Masi this season as race directors following controversial decisions made by the Australian during the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix season finale.
