Vice President of the Russian Automobile Federation Sergei Sirotkin assessed the chances of Russian pilots Daniel Kvyat And Nikita Mazepin continue his career abroad, noting that he expects a quick resolution of the situation with the admission of Russians to international tournaments.
– A difficult question, because not everything depends on them. Of course, as a national motorsport official, I would like our drivers to have the opportunity to drive and the specialists to work without restrictions. Do everything more openly than now. Because sport, it seems to me, should always stay out of politics.
And above all, I would like to hurt young people who have spent years of their life in motorsport and have reached a certain level. It will be a shame and a mistake if they are ready for the next leg of the global race, but cannot make it. I want this situation resolved,” he said in an interview with RT.
Previously, the European Court of Justice, by its decision, allowed Nikita Mazepin to enter the EU to negotiate and conclude contracts with racing teams or with sponsors not associated with her father, Dmitry Mazepin. The Russian driver is authorized to act “as a main or reserve driver of Formula 1 or other series organized under the auspices of the FIA” in EU member states.
Kvyat competed in Formula 1 for Red Bull and Alfa Tauri (formerly Toro Rosso) in 2014-2017 and 2019-2020.
