Carlos Sainz: I’m on cloud nine right now!

Carlos Sainz won the Singapore Grand Prix, having skillfully structured the race, especially its end – a very interesting tactical game allowed him to achieve his second victory in Formula 1.

Carlos Sainz: “Incredible emotions at the end of this incredible weekend! I would like to thank the entire Ferrari team, who managed to turn the situation around, and after a difficult start to the season we finally achieved this victory!

During the race we did everything right, performed perfectly and finished first – today all of Italy can be proud of Ferrari! Today the most important thing was to take good care of the tires, especially at the start of each segment, in order to complete the planned number of laps.

Obviously because of the safety car we had to pit earlier than we had planned, and I knew I had a very long stint on hard tires where I had to hold on to George Russell not to allow him to take advantage of the appearance of the safety car or to make another pit stop when he switched to Medium tires.

We executed this plan perfectly, but in the end the battle was very fierce. I deliberately let Lando Norris get close to him to help him so he could use DRS. In the end I crossed the finish line first.

To be honest, I felt like I was in control of the race, I was able to ride at the right pace which allowed me to do what I had to do. Of course there was a risk of making mistakes, but it seemed to me that I could deal with that just fine. And when we won, I experienced the most joyful feeling possible – now I’m on cloud nine!”
