Last year, the FIA allowed the joint project of Andretti Global and GM to participate in Formula 1, but in January 2024 the championship management rejected the American team. However, Andretti is not giving up and continues to prepare for his debut in 2026 – the team is recruiting staff and opened a base in Silverstone last week.
Mario Andretti, the father of project manager Michael Andretti, said that a meeting with FOM is planned for the near future, during which the possibility of the Andretti team entering Formula 1 will be discussed.
“We haven’t stopped working since the very first days of the project,” Mario Andretti told Sports Illustrated. – We already have a car, a wind tunnel and so on. Our current goal is to start in 2026.
We keep working every day and don’t pay attention to what’s in the press. We only need one permission: from the FOM. We will have an important meeting with them soon and I hope we will get positive results from it.”
