Cloudy Dry. Air +27C, highway +40C
To the delight of many, the sky was covered in clouds on Saturday and during the day it was not as hot at the Hungaroring as the day before, but this is only a temporary exception that complicates everything – the weather forecast for Sunday promises heat.
This is partly why, at the start of the session, much to the dismay of the grandstands, the track was empty. Yesterday’s settings won’t work today, and today’s settings won’t work tomorrow. But then the racers went out and prepared for qualifying with a short series of laps on Soft.
Sainz and Hulkenberg avoided a collision in the third sector, Carlos preparing for a fast lap and Nico driving slowly. Gasly, Stroll and Verstappen went off the track in the first corner. Hamilton spun on the kerb in the ninth without any consequences for the car. Zhou had gearbox problems and slowly returned to the pits.
Lando Norris once again set the fastest time, lapped in 1:16.098. Qualifying is shaping up to be interesting!
