Pirelli expects two pit stops in Sunday’s race

The teams’ strategy for tomorrow’s race depends on the remaining new sets of tyres…

Mario IsolaPirelli: “We witnessed another exciting qualifying at the Hungaroring – the first three places were separated by 46 thousandths of a second. This suggests that we will have an exciting race tomorrow, both on the front row and in the battle for the remaining points.

It’s worth noting that the cars’ performance has improved significantly over the year, with today’s pole time almost a second and a half faster than last year – and this on one of the shortest circuits on the calendar.

The classic version of the strategy is two pit stops. In theory, the fastest option is to start on Medium and then go to Hard. But the teams’ decisions will depend on the number of kits available.

Three teams – Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari – each have one new Hard and two new Medium kits, while Aston Martin has one new Medium and one new Hard. The rest of the teams have at least two Hard and one Medium kits.

Another very important factor will be the return of warmer weather, with track temperatures expected to be well over 50°C.”
