After Sunday’s Formula 2 race in Monza, the stewards decided to disqualify the DAMS team’s driver Ayumu Iwasa. It turned out that the Japanese car did not meet the technical regulations.
During the post-race inspection, the stewards discovered that the thickness of the control bar on Iwasa’s Dallara is less than required by article 4.2 of the technical regulations.
Accordingly, the race results were revised and Enzo Fittipaldi moved up to third; all the other riders who finished behind the Brazilian also moved up one line, including Youri Vips, who got a bonus point for 10th place.
In addition, Ralf Boschung loses three positions at the start of the next race – due to unsafe returning to the track and causing an accident. This episode took place right after the start at the exit of the first chicane, and as a result, Theo Purscher, the ART rider, as well as Luca Ghiotto, who competes for DAMS, fell out of the fray.
The stewards believed that responsibility for this incident rests entirely with Boschung.
