Former Formula 1 driver, Sky Sport commentator Martin Brundle believes Lewis Hamilton’s problems this year are only related to his car…
Martin Brundle: “A few months ago we were enthusiastically discussing last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix and saying that this race could be the best race of Lewis’s career, and now suddenly it was said that he was tired, that it was time for him to retire. † This is complete nonsense. The problem is solely in his car, which is not working. Let’s hope Mercedes will solve this problem sooner or later. I loved his sentence: “this is my masterpiece, and I will decide when it will be finished.”
Russell can handle a bad car better than Lewis. George is incredibly motivated, he played three years for Williams and got better results than the machine allowed. He is doing great, Russell is a special rider and I am not at all surprised that he is performing at Lewis level. This is what I expected from him.
If Mercedes finds a solution, they will have time to recoup. But there soon comes a time when the team has to admit that this car and their concept don’t work – and develop a new one for the second half of the season. What can be done in such a situation? I can’t imagine they would want to copy anyone else’s concept.
Given budget constraints and a busy season of 23 Grand Prix, Mercedes found themselves in a very difficult situation. The next two races, which start in Miami, are key to solving the problem. But can they fix it?
