Chile Classic: Ben Kohles lifts the trophy after a difficult tie-break in Santiago

The American beat Australian Dimi Papadatos in the playoffs and earned his third Korn Ferry Tour victory. Felipe Aguilar and Hugo León were in position 36.

The Korn Ferry Tour stopover in Chile already has its winner. This is the American Ben Kohles, who secured his victory by beating the Australian Dimi Papadatos in a double tie-break. The two finished the last 18 holes with a cumulative 21 under par.

A very tough battle between two players who were not favorites. Saturday closed with a table hosted by mason anderson And Nyholm Bridge, who was leading with cards of 18 under par. But on Sunday, everything fell apart for them. While the American finished seventh in over par in the final round, the Swede had a day to forget, nailing a +4 daily card which propelled him into T18.

Ben Kholes, new champion, started the last round in the Top 5 and climbed to the top thanks to a pass where he scored six birdies and only one bogey. His tiebreaker rival caused even more upset as he cleared seven shots of the requirement on Sunday.

In the tiebreaker, Kholes finally won, after birdieing on par 5 of hole 18. Although it was the second pass of the playoffs, because in the first the two managed to fly the mythical flag of the Prince of Wales Country Club. This is his third Korn Ferry victory for the American after the Cox Classic and Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational titles in 2012.

The Chileans were one step away from the prize

Felipe Aguilar and Hugo León failed to qualify directly for the next Korn Ferry Tour tournament. Both had to stay in the top 25 ratings of the day to enter the draw for the Veritex Bank Championship in Arlington, Texas.

But the numbers did not give. The two finished with a record -12 overall and one under par on Sunday, moving up to T36 in the tournament, just one shot from target. Anyway, round week for two players not on the Korn Ferry Tour. While Aguilar is an experienced player on the European Tour, having entered the Chilean Classic for his results on the qualifying circuit, León came to the tournament with an invitation from the organization, making his senior debut on the PGA development.
