— It’s always interesting to communicate with people who want to improve hockey. After all, we are talking about how to generate interest in our league. Especially during the sanctions period against our hockey. Therefore, for me, it is not a heavy burden to bear and leave. As long as you have questions, I will stay with you. And help you do your job. It’s mutual respect. I wish there was more interest in our leagues. Not only in KHL, but also in VHL and MHL. Sometimes you come to certain cities and there’s no one at the press conferences at all. That’s a big downside.
— Why, being so open and sociable at press conferences, do you avoid one-on-one conversations with journalists?
I have no problem talking one-on-one. But we have many publications. If I speak to a journalist, another will say: “Why not with me?”. It’s a thin line. And I didn’t invent that, I took it from Pep Guardiola. When a person is too much, it is bad. Therefore, if after the game you have any questions, we will discuss them. An hour and a half, I don’t care how long that takes. It’s not difficult for me to speak. But at the same time, you don’t want to spend 20 hours a day in hockey and four in a dream. There are plenty of people on our team who are ready to chat.
Torpedo is fourth in the KHL Western Conference standings with 74 points. CSKA and Lokomotiv, which rise higher, have the same number.
