Toronto head coach says he doesn’t blame Samsonov for loss to Boston in Stanley Cup opener

The head coach “Toronto Maple Leafs » Sheldon Keefe said he doesn’t blame the Russian goalkeeper Ilya Samsonova in a loss to the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of the NHL playoffs.

The Maple Leafs lost 5-1 to the Bruins to begin the first round of the Stanley Cup on Saturday. Samsonov stopped 23 shots.

— I would call each of Boston’s goals good. There have been difficult times and challenges. Samsonov made a few saves. At the end of the first half it was windy, everything happened on the goal line. He fought and didn’t miss.

I don’t blame him at all. On the other hand, we only scored one goal. “It’s not enough to help a goalie win,” Keefe said, as quoted by MLHS.

In total, Samsonov has played 40 matches this season, in which he has contributed to 23 victories with 89% saved shots.
