Novara’s Italian volleyball player Giulia Ituma has died in Turkey, the club’s press service reports.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 18-year-old fell through the window of her hotel room in Istanbul and died instantly.
Ituma was in Turkey with Novara, who lost 0-3 to local side Eczacibashi on Wednesday in the Women’s Champions League semi-final.
“Novara is deeply saddened to announce the death of volleyball player Julia Ituma. The tragedy occurred early in the morning, the Turkish police are investigating the circumstances.
Novara expresses her condolences to Julia’s family and friends. The club and all employees are shocked by the loss and will remain silent pending the outcome of the investigation, Novara said in a statement.
