Romanian highly appreciates the work of Sergei Rebrov
Ex-mentor of Shakhtar and Dynamo Mircea Lucescu assessed the upcoming performance of the Ukrainian national team at Euro 2024. The Romanian specialist spoke separately about the blue-yellow coach Sergei Rebrov.
“As a player, Rebrov was my rival when I was at Shakhtar. He was very smart. He had an atypical physique for a striker, but it helped him develop good technique.
“As a coach, he has already gained important experience. He has about 5-6 championship titles, including outside Ukraine – with Ferencvaros and Al-Ain. He has matured and his contribution will raise the team’s level of play, which is already high.”
“Of all the teams in the East that will be at this Euro, Ukraine is the best. In fact, I believe that today’s Ukrainian team is the best team they have ever had. Ukraine can reach the semi-finals of Euro 2024 and become a surprise of this championship.”
At the group stage, the blue-yellows will play against the national teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
Ukraine will play at the European Championships for the fourth time. The blue-and-yellows have consistently competed in the finals of the continental championship since 2012.
