BC Prometey released four players and signed defender Startsev

The team continues to form its roster for next season.

BC Prometheus announced the departure of four players: the team captain Dmitry Golovchiktwo centers Dmitry Likhoy And Anton Sturovas well as a forward Daniil Pirogov.

At the same time, the club signed attacking guard Sergei Startsev, who had previously played for BC Prometey. The 27-year-old player spent his last season with Prykarpattia-Goverla – in 31 matches, he averaged 16.32 points (5th in the Super League), gave 4.5 assists and made 3.9 rebounds.

Let us recall that basketball team Prometey refused to participate in the Super League in the 2022/23 season due to disagreements with the FBU. Dubinsky then stated that the Federation demanded a discriminatory application fee, ten times higher than the standard. The FBU justified such an amount by Prometey’s participation in a European Cup tournament “not under the auspices of FIBA.”

A year later, in 2023, the FBU refused to allow Prometey into the Super League, guided, according to the president of the federation Mikhail Brodsky, “solely by the rules.” As a result, the club from Kamenskoye, like the year before, played with its main lineup in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League and became its champion for the second time in a row. In parallel, the team led by Ronen Ginzburg played in the Eurocup.

At the same time, Prometey entered the Ukrainian Premier League with a reserve team (exclusively consisting of Ukrainian players) and easily won it, achieving entry into the FAVBET Super League on a sporting basis.

At the end of the season, the club’s management decided to focus on the Ukrainian Super League. As announced, the team’s core will be made up of Ukrainian players who played in the Premier League. At the same time, Prometey will not play in European tournaments next season, and the players who were based in Riga are now open to offers from other teams.
