Shabalina on Paralympic gold: “The coach promised a badge if I overtook the British woman”

Paralympic champion Valerie Shabalina told that his coach Tatyana Novikova gave him a badge for beating British swimmer Poppy Maskill.

On Saturday, Shabalina, competing in the S14 class, won the 200-meter freestyle. Britain’s Maskill took silver.

– Finally, I beat the British! The coach said that if I beat the British girl, she will give me a badge. I did it and she gave me the badge.

Earlier at the Paralympics, Shabalina won bronze in the 100-meter butterfly. A Russian woman became a mother in February.
