Ukrainian wins bronze in 88kg category
Ukrainian Yuri Babinets won a bronze medal in powerlifting on Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris.
Yuriy competed in the 88 kilogram category. In his first attempt, the Ukrainian lifted 212 kilograms, and then 214 kilograms. In his third attempt, Babinets tried to lift 225 kg. The judges did not count the attempt and rejected the Ukrainian team’s protest.
The champion with a Paralympic record was Panpan Yang from China. Second place went to Mohamed Elelfat from Egypt.
29-year-old Babinets is competing in his second Paralympic Games and has won his first medal there. This is also the first award for Ukraine in powerlifting at the 2024 Paralympics.
The 2024 Paralympics are taking place in Paris from August 28 to September 8. The Ukrainian team is represented at the Games by 140 athletes. Ukrainians are competing in 17 of the 22 Paralympic sports – a record in the history of our country.
