Svitolina: When I play with Russians and Belarusians, it is very difficult for me. Because I know what our people, our warriors go through

Elina notes that messages from the military motivate her to give her all her strength for Ukraine in all arenas.

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina spoke about her communication with the military who protect our country from Russian military aggression. She also shared the feelings that arise when she goes out on the court against tennis players from Russia and Belarus.

“I always have a lot of messages from Ukrainian soldiers. I try to look through everything in the direct, but sometimes I can’t see everything. But there are a lot of messages. It motivates me a lot. I always think about how they give themselves for our country. And this is a big motivation for me to also give all my strength for Ukraine in all arenas!”

“When I play with Russians and Belarusians, first of all, it’s very difficult for me. Because I know what our people, our warriors, are going through. And that adds pressure to me. But at the same time, it gives me motivation to go out and try to win. Not to give them a chance to celebrate their victory over Ukraine!”

Elina Svitolina’s last tournament was the 2024 US Open. She was eliminated in the third round after losing in a three-set match to the 2023 tournament champion, American Coco Gauff.
