Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic commented on the home victory over Chernomorets (2:1) in the 12th round UPL.
“As I said last time, we played two matches, it seems, in four days – we had and will have a very difficult schedule in the future, so we carried out this rotation. And I have to say that all the guys who played did very well, showed great energy and discipline, adhered to all the football principles that I want to see during the game. And today we also made several substitutions – they worked very well. So I’m very proud of all my players because it’s never easy to get into a rhythm when you’re not on the field for a while, but we played the way we prepared, so I wasn’t surprised, but I’m very happy to see it.”
“The only thing I can complain about is that maybe we need to score more goals, get ahead of the opposition, make better decisions in the final third. We had one careless moment in the first half, but that’s about it. Concentration was at a fairly high level, and energy was high. I’m very pleased with what I saw today.”
“What will we do when playing with Young Boys, what players will we use? Well, it’s good to see that they’re all ready, that we have a lot of options. “Why did I replace Sican with Eguinaldo and not Traore? Perhaps I will play the next game without a striker at all, this could happen. Traore played in the last match two days ago, Sican was fresh, so he started. You could see he needed to get into an appropriate rhythm because he had been out for a long time. Eguinaldo had fresh energy and it was something new today to bring out a fresh player, a fresh striker.”
“I know he can also play left and center forward, so it’s not a new position for him because we’ve done it a few times, not only in the off-season but also during official matches. Shakhtar will play their next match on November 6 in the Champions League against Young Boys, after which they will face Zorya in the UPL on November 10.
