Figure skater Malinin entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the quadruple axel

American figure skater Ilya Malinin entered the Guinness Book of World Records after becoming the first athlete to properly perform a quadruple Axel in competition, according to the yearbook’s website.

Malinin performed the most expensive element of the free program, according to the judges, at the US International Classic tournament, which took place in Lake Placid (USA) on Wednesday.

– Only two other skaters in history – Yuzuru Hanyu and Artur Dmitriev Jr. – have attempted a quad Axel in competition before 17-year-old Malinin nailed it during the free skate in Lake Placid. This is the last successful jump as a quadruple, says the description of the record.

Malinin is the winner of the 2022 World Junior Championship. The athlete’s parents, Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov, are figure skaters who participated in Allied and Russian tournaments. Later they represented Uzbekistan.
