The Office of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), after consulting various stakeholders, has decided to remove the 25km course from the open water swimming program of the Fukuoka 2023 World Championships.
FINA informed the national federations, including the All-Russian Swimming Federation, where they confirmed this information for .
The decision was made due to the insufficient number of participants in this distance at the last two FINA World Championships.
FINA will continue to explore new opportunities for the 25km open water competition and is working on a new concept for long distance competition in marathon swimming.
