Rublev wasn’t in the best mood for Wild game, says Yanchuk

Honored tennis coach of Russia Viktor Yanchuk appreciated the victory Andrei Rublev against Brazilian Thiago Wild in the first round of the Australian Open.

Fifth seed Rublev defeated world number 78 Wild on Sunday with a score of 7:5, 6:4, 3:6, 4:6, 7:6 (10:6). In the tiebreaker, the Russian lost 1:4 and 2:5.

— The first round, the first meeting of a tournament as major as the Australian Open, is not indicative. Rublev, naturally, was confident in his victory over Wild. But there was no proper form or attitude. Andrey still needs to acquire it as the tournament progresses, increasing his potential from round to round. Rublev must play more and more with confidence. I think it will be so. Attitude is very important: he knew he was going to win, and he played cautiously, not at his peak. The atmosphere was not the best,” Yanchuk said as quoted by “Championship”.

In the next match, Rublev will face the winner of the confrontation between Christopher Eubanks (USA) and Taro Daniel (Japan).
