Paired with Elena-Gabriela Ruse, the Ukrainian confidently beat the Fernandez/Routliffe tandem
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk came out in 1/4 finals doubles at Roland Garros 2024.
The tandem of Marta and Elena-Gabriela Ruse from Romania in the third round defeated the pair Leila Fernandez / Erin Routliffe (Canada / New Zealand), seeded No. 9, in straight sets. The meeting lasted one hour and 24 minutes.
The favorites of the meeting lost the first set outright, taking the only game with a score of 0:5. In the second game the fight was already equal. Fernandez and Routliffe led with a score of 3:1, but after that Kostyuk and Ruse turned the game around. With the score 5:3, they missed a match point, but took theirs in the next game.
Let us remind you that at the start of the event, Marta and Elena-Gabriela beat the French duo Clara Burel / Chloe Paquet, after which they dealt with the pair Maria Bouzkova / Sara Sorribes-Tormo (Czech Republic / Spain). In the quarter finals, the Ukrainian and Romanian rivals will be the “neutral” tandem Mirra Andreeva / Vera Zvonareva.
Earlier, Nadezhda Kichenok and Japanese Miyu Kato made it to the doubles quarterfinals. Kichenok and Kostyuk are the only Ukrainian women who continue to participate in Roland Garros 2024.
