Former world number one Rafael Nadal announced that he had decided to withdraw from the Laver Cup.
The Laver Cup is an exhibition team tournament and will be held in 2024 from September 20 to 22 in Berlin. Nadal was scheduled to play as part of Team Europe alongside his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, Russian Daniil Medvedev, Norwegian Kasper Ruud, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and German Alexander Zverev.
— I am very upset that I cannot participate in the tournament. At the moment, there are other players who can help our team achieve victory. I wish the European team good luck and will support them,” Nadal was quoted as saying by the press service of the tournament organizers.
The Spaniard is 38 years old and is a 22-time Grand Slam winner.
