International Skating Union (ISU) Vice President in Figure Skating, Russia’s Alexander Lakernik, delivered a farewell speech to congress delegates on the last day of the meeting in Phuket.
Earlier it was learned that Lakernik, 77, will not be able to run again because Congress failed to pass a proposal to raise the age limit for civil servants to 80 (now only those who do not have reached 75 years of age can be elected). Canadian Benoit Lavoie replaced him as vice-president of figure skating.
“As vice president until the end of the day, I want to congratulate everyone who was elected,” Lakernik said. – And to say that I am absolutely sure that the ISU is in good hands. The Congress has shown how well organized we are and I would like to thank all the participants.
Lakernik has been vice president of the ISU since 2016.
