About 2.5 thousand athletes will compete for 108 rounds of awards within the framework of the II All-Russian Spartakiad between the subjects of Russia in winter sports among the strongest athletes, reports the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.
The Spartakiad will be held from February 9 to 18, 2024. A total of 108 sets of awards will be contested across the Olympic sports: biathlon, bobsleigh, skeleton, alpine skiing, curling, speed skating, short track, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, ski jumping, sledding, ski mountaineering, snowboarding, figure skating, hockey.
— The All-Russian Winter Sports Spartakiad will be the biggest sporting event of 2024. The event will bring together 2,500 of the country’s strongest athletes. It is symbolic that the Spartakiad takes place on the days when we will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, one of the most significant events in the recent history of our country.
What is important is that we actively use the legacy of the Games. For example, the Spartakiad bobsleigh and luge competitions will be held on the Olympic luge and bobsleigh track. In the regions, sites that have hosted major international tournaments will also be involved in the competition. On behalf of the President, the Russian government pays great attention to the development of sports infrastructure in the regions, both for mass sports and for large sports complexes in the field of high-level sports, said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister minister of the Russian Federation.
Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin said he was convinced that the competition would arouse wide interest.
— In the summer of 2022, we successfully organized the All-Russian Spartakiad, which covered 12 regions of the country. I am sure that the Winter Spartakiad competitions will be held at the same high level of organization and will generate wide interest among sports fans all over the country.
The leaders of the Winter Olympics will gather in the Krasnoyarsk and Krasnodar regions, Tyumen, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk within ten days of the competition. For athletes, the Spartakiad will become an important national start, where you can assess your level of training and compete with the strongest. For us, the formation of a strong national sports system is a priority, and the Spartakiad will become one of the key elements of the sports calendar of the season,” added Matytsin.
The Spartakiad will take place on the territory of five constituent entities of the Russian Federation. In the Chelyabinsk region, it is planned to hold competitions in snowboarding, freestyle (big air, slopestyle, halfpipe, ski cross), alpine skiing, speed skating, short track, figure skating, biathlon and hockey. Sverdlovsk region will host competitions in Nordic combined, ski jumping and mountaineering (ski mountaineering), Krasnodar region – in bobsleigh and luge, Tyumen region – in cross-country skiing, Krasnoyarsk region – in curling and freestyle (acrobatics, bumps).
The opening and closing ceremonies of the Games will take place in Chelyabinsk.
