The biathlete won bronze in the sprint at the 2024 European Championships
Ukrainian biathlete Kristina Dmitrenko commented on winning the bronze medal at European Championship 2024.
“I’m happy with the start. This medal is very important to me. She gives self-confidence and says that everything was not done in vain. She gives a big boost to the fact that I can fight – both me and the girls who are on the team with me. This medal is very important for the coaches of Ukraine. Therefore, I am very happy that I was still able to please everyone by getting into the top three.”
“I wasn’t disappointed when I saw that I was in third place. I knew that strong girls would start behind me. The coach also warned before the race that two Norwegians would start in the last group. Therefore, all I could do was wait for the last participant to finish. To say that I was very nervous – no. I did everything I could, gave my best on the track, and at the turn I worked accurately and quickly.”
“Before the race I refused to give an interview, because if I said that I was in good shape and showed not a very good result… I don’t like to give interviews before the race, because during it everything changes. There you can feel good, but have a bad start. And when you don’t feel very well, on the contrary, the results will be more favorable.”
Dmitrenko passed the shooting range without misses and took third place in the sprint. The Ukrainian lost to two Norwegian biathletes Ida Lien and Maren Kirkade.
On Saturday, the men’s and women’s pursuit races will take place at the European Championships, which takes place in Brezno-Osrbli, Slovakia. Mixed relay races will take place on Sunday.
