Albert Mutalibov will continue to work as head coach of the Russian women’s boxing team. This was reported by Eduard Kravtsov, Chairman of the Coaching Council of the Russian Boxing Federation.
The Russian Boxing Federation’s Coaching Council convened in Moscow on Thursday. The women’s world championship, held across 12 weight categories, had concluded in New Delhi at the end of March. The Russian team, competing under national attributes, finished third in the team standings. The national team brought home one gold medal (Anastasia Demurchyan, under 70 kg), one silver medal (Natalia Sychugova, under 63 kg), and one bronze medal (Diana Pyatak, over 92 kg).
“We reviewed the team’s performance at the Women’s World Championship. Head coach Albert Mutalibov presented his report; we listened, discussed, and asked questions. It was decided to rate the team’s performance in India as satisfactory. If we set aside the statistics from past world championships and exclude the home world championship in 2019 in Ulan-Ude, when the team won three gold medals, that was the last World Championship in which the Russian team participated [editor’s note], when the team performed well… At world championships before 2019, our team did not even finish in the top three and came back without gold medals. Furthermore, this assessment was influenced by the strong performances of the younger athletes. One acknowledged shortcoming was the absence of medals in the Olympic weight categories. We hope the coaching staff will correct that situation. There were also questions raised about the disappointing performances of some of the team’s leading athletes.
Albert Mutalibov will continue to work as head coach of the women’s team. We are seeing positive changes. Yes, certain errors have been identified. Now we need to address them,” Kravtsov said.
From May 1 to May 14, the men’s world championship will be held in Tashkent.
