Greta Martinelli, a 28-year-old Argentine setter, has signed with Rebaza Acosta ahead of the new season of the Liga Peruana de Vóley, Peru's top domestic volleyball competition. The move marks her return to the league after a spell playing club volleyball in the Czech Republic.
In recent years the Liga Peruana de Vóley has become a showcase for foreign players, and Martinelli's arrival at Rebaza Acosta is one of several signings clubs have made in recent months as they continue strengthening their rosters ahead of the new campaign.
Martinelli previously played for Deportivo Soan during the 2024-25 season, according to the Liga Peruana de Vóley.
Martinelli on the level of Peru's volleyball league
In an interview with the program Saque y Punto, Martinelli said the competitiveness of the Liga Peruana de Vóley positions any player well on the international stage.
She said the Peruvian league is widely watched, which helps any player who joins it, especially one who is not yet well known, since it can launch her to fame, as she put it. She added that playing alongside so many people, speaking with journalists and facing such competitive opposition opens up a promising outlook for anyone hoping to continue in high-performance volleyball, opening what she called nice doors.
Martinelli also addressed the balance of power within the league. She acknowledged that some teams are stronger than others because of their foreign and local players, but said she believes the bottom-placed team can beat the top side, which she said shows how competitive the league is.
She said it is well known that some teams have a higher level than others, but that players cannot walk into a match assuming the result is already decided because of who they are facing. According to Martinelli, players must be prepared no matter the opponent, from the champions and the runner-up to the top four teams and those near the bottom of the table. She said every match has to be played and taken seriously, not treated as a formality.

Martinelli is an Argentine setter with experience across the international club circuit, most recently in the Czech Republic before her move back to Peru. A setter is the player responsible for organising a volleyball team's attack, typically delivering the second touch to set up teammates for a spike.
When the 2026-27 season starts
According to recent reports, the start of the new Liga Peruana de Vóley season, originally planned for October 5, could be pushed back to October 17 or 18. The Federación Peruana de Vóley is expected to publish the competition's rules and confirm the official date in the coming days.
