Arsenal moved four wins from four at the start of the Premier League season after goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Bukayo Saka gave the reigning champions a 2-0 win away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Guimaraes broke the deadlock just before the hour mark, scoring in the 58th minute, before Saka added a second from the penalty spot in the seventh minute of stoppage time to seal the win for Mikel Arteta's team.
The result left Arsenal provisionally alone at the top of the table, though their sole lead depends on what happens on Sunday, when second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand, play Manchester United in the Manchester derby, one of the most closely watched fixtures in English football.
Tzolis in the starting eleven
Greece international Christos Tzolis was named in Arteta's starting lineup for the trip to Sunderland and played until the 81st minute, when he was replaced by Eberechi Eze.
Arsenal go into the season as the reigning champions of England, and Saturday's win kept their record perfect after four league matches.
Tottenham held again by Everton
Tottenham Hotspur spent more than 350 million euros in last summer's transfer window bringing in what were billed as top-level signings to change the club's fortunes, but the team is still struggling at the start of the campaign. A goalless 0-0 draw at home to Everton left Tottenham without a win after four matchdays.
Manager De Zerbi's side were largely predictable in the game, managing only 0.64 expected goals, a measure of the quality of chances a team creates. Tottenham failed to score for a fourth straight matchday. Everton were the more attacking team and could have left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with all three points in the second half.
Saturday's other results
Elsewhere in the fourth round of fixtures, Aston Villa lost 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest. Allison had put Villa ahead before Delap equalised just after half-time and Igor Jesus scored the winner in the 88th minute. Bournemouth and Brentford shared six goals in a 2-2 draw, with Kluivert and Tavernier on target for Bournemouth against a double from Kevin Schade.
Chelsea and Hull drew 2-2, with Rogers and Joao Pedro scoring for Chelsea and Beloumi netting twice for Hull. Crystal Palace lost 3-2 at home to Ipswich Town, who came from behind through goals from Emerson, Davis and a stoppage-time winner from Fleming after Halaili and Larsen had put Palace 2-1 up. Liverpool and Fulham played out a goalless draw.
Three fixtures from the round were still to be played: Coventry City were due to host Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester United were due to face Manchester City, both on 13 September, while Leeds United were due to meet Newcastle United on 14 September.
