Benfica defeated Scottish side Hearts 6-1 on Thursday in the first leg of the third qualifying round for access to the Europa League group stage. The match took place at the Luz.
Rafa, Tomás Araújo, and Pavlidis, who scored from a penalty kick, put the home team in a comfortable lead before half-time.

In the second half, Prestianni, Durán, and Scheldrup, who also scored from a penalty, completed the scoring for the home team. Tom Renaud scored the goal for Hearts in the 72nd minute.
Close to qualifying for the next phase, Benfica will face another team relegated from the Champions League. That opponent will be the loser of the match between Danish champion Aarhus and Azerbaijan champion Sabah.
