Georgian judoka suspended for six months for unsportsmanlike conduct at 2024 Olympics

Georgian judoka Guram Touchishvili disqualified for six months for unsportsmanlike conduct after a fight at the Paris Olympic Games, reports the press service of the International Judo Federation (IJF).

In the quarterfinals, the Georgian athlete, competing in the weight category over 100 kg, lost to the Frenchman Teddy Riner. At the end of the fight, Riner received an ippon. Tushishvili kicked the Frenchman, who was lying on the tatami and trying to get up. The Georgian could qualify for a place in the repechage matches and fight for the bronze medals. Riner won the gold medal.

The ineligibility period begins on August 30, 2024 and ends on February 25, 2025. Tushishvili is a 2020 Olympic silver medalist and 2018 world champion.

The Paris Olympics ended on August 11.
