French footballer Yael Trepy is in intensive care at the Santissima Anunciada Hospital in Sassari after nearly drowning in a swimming pool on Sunday.
The 20-year-old Cagliari forward was placed in an induced coma after ingesting a large amount of water during the incident in Porto Cervo, according to Italian newspapers La Repubblica and Corriere della Sera.
Hospitalisation and medical updates
Cagliari Calcio confirmed on Monday that the player is receiving treatment in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit following the near-drowning incident.
The Italian club stated that officials remain in constant contact with both the medical team and Trepy's family to closely monitor his clinical progress. However, the Sardinian club did not specify the exact circumstances leading to the forward's hospitalisation in its official press release.
Reports from Italian media indicate that Trepy was quickly rescued from the water on Sunday before being emergency transported to the hospital facility in Sassari.

The incident occurred in the Sardinian resort town of Porto Cervo while Cagliari's squad had been granted two days off by management.
Trepy had played as a starter in Cagliari's 1-0 victory over Arezzo in the Italian Cup just prior to the scheduled break. The squad was resting ahead of their opening match of the Serie A season against Parma.
